aggregate acts as a thermal insulator so the heat generated
by the cement hydration process is retained in the concrete. Therefore,
thicker sections in the range of (20 cm = 8") can build up considerable
heat which damages the hydration process. Thus, for thicker sections,
it is desirable to use a low-heat cement or fly-ash additive in the
mix or consider a high level of curing water, two hours after laying
has been applied.
can be cut with concrete handsaws, masonry disks or
chainsaws with concrete cutting teeth. It can be nailed without cracking
and can have screws inserted without pre-drilling holes. All standard
concrete fasteners, lifting ferrules and attachments are compatible
with .
can be pumped vertically with concrete pumps like the
ones used for normal concrete. This is mainly attributed to the lighter
weight and the lower friction between the interface and the standpipe and hose. A fluidicant
additive may be necessary.
Less
effort is requiered to pleace and finish than regular concrete because of the lower weight and greater workability
than normal concrete.
